If
one watches anything either on Cable Network or Movie or on OTT platforms one
would be amazed at the rise of Anti Heroes and Heroines from Arya to Deepika
Padukone’s Character in Pathan to all the Saas bhi….. type of serials one can
find self being center to all the rest of propositions. It seems very
surprising that in a country like India where the other self always took
precedence, dominance of self at the cost of other, even if they are near and
dear ones seems the norm.
The
one feeling which seems to have gone for a toss is that of sacrifice.
The nobler elements of self, love,
forgiveness, sacrifice are sacrificed at the altar of jealousy, selfishness,
one up- man ship etc. It seems that we have taken Darwin’s notions of survival
of the fittest to a rather extreme level. Survival of the fittest does not
necessarily entail sacrificing all that may entail the larger cause or the
larger good. If we create a dog eat dog world, at the end of the day what the
future portends will be a million dollar question we all need to ponder
over.
