The Haves and have Nots

The Haves and have Nots

The struggle and conflict between those who possess something: power; wealth; status; position and those who are marginalized; has existed from the time immemorial. The power of the Greeks and Romans over their wretched slaves; the power struggle of the Bourgeoisie against the Monarchical systems; overthrow of colonial systems, rise of different voices of the marginalized people of colour against the White imperialist systems; or the more well known capitalist vs. communist are but the representations of the rise of different ideas and people trying to make their voice count.

Nepotism, favoritism, partiality all stem from a feeling in a number of the people that they have been left behind by the systems that are currently in vogue. There is always a strong feeling in the people left behind that the system works for the betterment of only a few. Whenever this feeling starts gaining ground and is supported by many that we suddenly come across the revolutions taking place whether political, social, economic or military.

Whenever the systems begin to reward those who are perceived as less deserving, the murmuring of dissent starts, and gradually gains momentum over a period of time leading to all kinds of allegations and counter allegations till finally the occurrence of a conflict is visible.

The “Have Nots” need to be included in the mainstream for the systems to be viable and functioning smoothly. Friction and dissatisfaction with the feeling of being left out of the existing system by the excluded people has to be addressed suitably by all smoothly working systems for their future continuation.
