The history of development has been a history of conflict. If one looks at yesteryears or the age gone by, one would be surprised to see the levels of conflict from the ever raging political conflicts, to the armed confrontations, to the ideas related to morals and benefits of the society, or the more pervasive generation gap, the society is always divided into the lines of the belief systems and perceived values of the correct path.
From the times of epics: The Mahabharata and Ramayana to the more recent times of the world wars, we have witnessed great leaps of technological developments as a consequence of raging conflicts between two warring sides. The broad roads were developed to facilitate the easy movement of tanks of the German Army; various weapons of destruction were developed to annihilate the opposite side, the internet is a gift of the post-war iron curtain era when the west was inquisitive about the means and modes behind the Berlin wall.
Often enough the conflicts are perceived, detrimental to the well being of an individual or system, yet looking back through the annals of history it would be wiser to accept that the future belongs to brave or those who can overcome conflict. Conflicts are embedded in binary of positions that people end up adopting due to their perceptions or ideas and most people find it extremely difficult to accept the ideas of other people.
Be it literature, with Shakespeare exploring the feelings of ambition, jealousy and indecision, or history being replete with examples such as Ram Vs. Ravan, Napoleon Vs. British, Spanish Vs. Elizabeth I or Communist Vs. Capitalist, the conflict lies in opposing ideas of people for furthering their cause, however, as part of the side effects of that ensuing conflict some changes are brought about leading to the physical, mental or financial benefit of people at large. From the colonial systems which introduced western culture to orient, to imperial systems which brought railroads and roads in their wake to the more recent globalization which uplifted millions out of poverty, the conflict of ideas is bound to leave some benefits for coming generations.
