The term Micro means 'on a very small scale' and management refers to deciding in advance-
Therefore, through the above reflection, we can ultimately say that micro-management refers to the analysis of the process followed within an organization or by the employees on a very small scale. Micro management has its own pros & cons.
There is a saying that- "Micro-management destroys momentum"
Now, the first and foremost thing to understand here is what actually momentum is?
Momentum is a commonly used term in the sports field.
"It’s referring to mass in motion"
According to this term, in the organization, if a manager starts to micro-manage the activities of the employees it will ultimately lead to the destruction of the productivity which can be given by an employee as an output, if the manager will keep poking the employee on their minor mistakes it will irritate the person and he will not be able to work with all his dedication and efficiency.
Micro-Management is generally taken on a negative note as it will vanish off the freedom of the working space as it is basically concerned with the avoidance in the delegation of decisions.
Somebody has very correctly stated- "Micro-Manage the process not the people"
Micro-Management shows great results if it is applied in processes rather than the people. Management should keep a close observation on the process which are opted by the employees so that the corrective measures can be taken at the earliest possible stage for the survival of the organization in this cutthroat competition rather than just degrading the productivity.
In today’s era, everybody wants to move towards growth and doesn’t want to lose any prevailing opportunities. Micro-management can be really very helpful in achieving those goals if applied systematically in the process and not in the people.
Conclusion- "People if micro-managed will negatively impact the organization whereas if the process is micro-managed it will have a positive impact"
