The birth anniversary of Moksha Gundam Visvesvaraya – one of the greatest and the first engineers of India was celebrated at SMS Lucknow as National Engineer’s Day. He was born on 15th September in the year 1861 at Munddenahalli, a small village in Karnataka. This auspicious day is acknowledged as National Engineer’s Day to appreciate his significant contributions to the country. Visvesvaraya is best known for harnessing water resources, designing successful models and their construction, construction of several dams, bridges and implementation of irrigation and drinking water schemes across India. A man of honest principles and a dedicated engineer, he served as the Dewan of Mysore and helped in the overall development and growth of Karnataka.
His amazing works include construction of KR Sagar dam and its neighbouring Brindavan Gardens, setting up of the Mysore Sandalwood Oil Factory and the founding of the Bank of Mysore. His detailed report on ‘Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India’ is still considered to be the best research material by several economic planners.
In today’s time an engineer is considered to be the most powerful and influential community who can contribute in glorifying India’s future. Although it was no other than Visvesvaraya who initially took upon the responsibility and established his glorious dream to millions. He was the one who took upon himself to take the initiative to the next level.
Engineers are the pillars of our society, being at the forefront of working to improve our digital and physical infrastructure. On average, India produces 15,00,000 engineers every year, honouring its National Engineer’s Day on the 15 of September every year.
This day is an attempt to honour the importance of engineers in our lives and to demonstrate our appreciation for them by remembering and acknowledging one of their most nuanced representations. With the world relying on technology and the internet now more than ever, all eyes are on our engineers to help our nation advance further in these domains. These people are the backbone of our country and the forerunners of our success. The 15th of September serves as a reminder of the effort and hard work of thousands of engineers for the advancement of our nation.
I would like to conclude by penning down the fact that Engineers are responsible for the future of our country. Their diverse paths lead to revolutionary changes in our nation. The contributions made by engineers are crucial and nation should feel proud of them.
