How to Manage Stress

“Stress acts as an accelerator: it will push you either forward or backward, but you choose which direction.”- Chelsea Erieau

Recently, a few weeks ago I went through an article in Times of India, about a young girl still in her twenties, seeking euthanasia, because of her mental health. This news surprised me for two reasons:-

1.      Denmark is a country which tops in happiness index.

2.      The girl barely 28 years of age is physically fit!

For most of us this incidence is weird, but if we look at, the other side of the coin, this story presents an alarming story for our country as well. Nearly 60 to 70 million people in our country suffer from common and severe mental disorders, making India world’s suicide capital with over 2.6 million cases in a year. The situation is alarming! The main reason being stress related issues.

So the question comes. What should be done to combat this situation? Below given are some powerful mantras or tips which may be useful if practiced-

  • Think Positive. Always say “I will do the best I can” instead of “I can’t do this”.
  • Deep breath, count 10 or recite some verses of your favorite poem or song before you react.
  • Meditate or pray on daily basis for inner strength and positivity.
  • Spend some time with nature and talk to yourself.
  • Do things you enjoy doing. It’s a great stress buster.
