Engineering is the use of technology to produce an efficient mechanism that speeds up and streamlines activities while utilizing limited resources. The principles established by society, which are also equal to human moral standards, are referred to as ethics. An engineer with ethics may make a difference in society. As a result, the study of engineering ethics, in which such ideals are incorporated in engineering by engineers, is critical for societal improvement. Engineering is the study of ethically desirable actions, policies, and ideals in engineering practice and research are known as ethics.

In October 2005, the Academy conducted its inaugural engineering ethics conference, during which the initial declaration of ethical principles was unveiled. The Academy has done a number of collaborative efforts on engineering ethics, including bringing the profession together to agree on a set of aspirational principles and collaborating with engineering educators to investigate ways of teaching engineering ethics.
The work of the Academy on engineering ethics includes ethics in engineering education, ethics in practice, and challenges concerning developing engineered technology. The Academy has worked to deepen engineering ethical thinking through events, publications, and teaching tools, as well as to give materials and inspiration for engineers interested in the broader implications of their work.
