Are we ready to adopt the principle of Effectuation in Education?
In the dynamic world today, where technology is the driving force for the leap and bound of changes in overall behavior of human being not only in terms of actions but also in complete persona. In such an era, the effectual logic, which was coined by Saras D. Sarasvathy, of the University of Virginia has such a great relevance.
Saras Sarasvathy’s theory of Effectuation (2001) describes an approach of making decisions and performing actions, where you identify the next, best step by evaluating the resources available in order to accomplish goals, while continuously matching these goals with your resources and actions. Though, the concept was conceptualized in entrepreneurial context but has a great sense in the teaching learning process.
The academia today, needs to undergo a rapid transformation to be at the pace of the world and to nurture students who are able to answer to the unpredictable problems of the dynamic world. Gone are the days when students were taught to set goals and strive for it. Now the focus should be balancing of goals in accordance with the externalities.
Here the academia must place an intricate role in mind mapping of students to understand and facilitate in fulfillment of personal objective and incorporating assessment tool in accordance with the objectives. The students today are exposed to immense information through digital platform hence sharing information and having a brainstorming alliance with students is a better practice. Moreover the resource persons must also be willing to continuously test existing models and take risks along the way.
But all of them are possible only when the students and faculties are properly engaged and empowered.
But, then the question again arises here that are the promoters ready to do so?
