Climate Change - Net Carbon Neutrality
“The only way to save mankind”
Global warming is the biggest problem of the world today. Earth’s temperature is monotonically rising due to green house gasses. The main component of GHG is CO2. So there is a need of net carbon neutrality. Carbon neutrality means the amount of carbon produced must be compensated, either by capturing produced carbon in industries using machines or by forestation. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) created Inter-governmental penal on climate change (IPCC) in 1988 to provide scientific information on climate change, its impact, risks and the solution to governments. In the UN Summit Conference on Environment development (UNCED) which was held in Rio de Janerio in June 1992 formed the UNFCCC (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change). In total, 155 countries joined the UNFCC to consider that what the whole world can do to limit the average rise in temperature of the Earth. After that in 1995 Conference of Third Parties (COP-3) was held in Kyoto, Japan which is also known as Kyoto Protocol. In this protocol, all developed countries committed to control green house gas emissions. Another important agreement “COP 21” also named as Paris Climate Agreement, in which 195 countries participated and made a vision that average Earth’s temperature must not be increased by 2 degree Celsius from the pre industrial era to the end of this century Recently IPCC produced its sixth report on climate change (AR6) in which it warned that average Earth temperature rise till 2100 must limit to 1.5 degree Celsius otherwise due to glacier melting sea level will rise up to 2 meters and most of the coastal areas will be submerged.
It also warns that extreme weather conditions like flood in China and Germany, fire in forests etc., will be more frequent. IPCC suggested that whole world have to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible. It also suggested reducing dependency on fossil fuels and adopting renewable energy. Effect of this report will be seen in coming COP 26 meeting at Glasgow Scotland where all the member countries may commit on carbon neutrality. Therefore it is the responsibility of all humans to save Earth by reducing carbon footprints and planting trees. Your contribution is very important to achieve carbon -neutrality goal of your country.
