BUSINESS, GOVERNANCE, AND MANAGEMENT LESSONS LEARNED FROM MAHA KUMBH MELA – 2025

When, we hear the words like Maha Kumbh, Kumbh Prayag Mela, or Magh Mela then usually it automatically strikes that it is a religious and spiritual bath at Sangam in Prayagraj city but truly there is many facets of this great gathering at Holy site of Triveni Sangam. This year Maha Kumbh Mela got huge prominence in terms of its reach, coverage and no. of pilgrimages visiting the holy place during its official and astronomical time i.e. 13th January,25 to 26th February,2025. In my words, this gathering has many of the key imperatives and insights for the business world, people interested in understanding crowd management, mega event management and learning governance and management-related new experiments by the organisers of this holy event. One of the very interesting sides of this mega-gathering is people are calculating and accepting its massive impacts on the lives of millions of people directly or indirectly.

Now, if, we talk about the business world then the majority of Indian Brands especially private sector organisations are joining hands with the government by sponsoring many activities like free stay, free food & lodging facilities etc. in the Kumbh region. Even, marketing and advertising professionals were eager to get insights that may popularise their name in mass level customers. Any freebies offered by such companies have a major impact on factors like customer acquisition, serving new sets of products, increasing brand awareness and expanding product lines among diverse sets of customers.

Governance is one of the yardsticks that is an enabler for the success and long-lasting impact of any mega event like the Maha Kumbh Mela. As per my observations, this MahaKumbh mela is well planned and organised and a great example of an effective governance model adopted by Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. Deploying such a huge no. of cops, and security personnel, and providing adequate place to the business and corporate world is only possible due to effective strategic management of key authorities. Business management graduates can learn several lessons which will be useful for them to become good organisers in future.

The term management has many meanings, structured concepts and definitions when we talk about a conceptual understanding of the subject but it can be redefined when we see, observe and realise this Mahakumbh mela. I think,

There is no other example of applications of management principles that cater to such a large gathering of people. The diverse nature of visitors and their intentions cannot be ignored so managing such aspirations and providing a chance to take a holy bath to every visitor near the Sangam and related areas is again great work of management. In my view, this Mahakumbh -2025 can be investigated by the business and other students as a case study which may be classified under Macro, Meso and micro level study having a different set of subject matter which might include spirituality, astronomical, socio-cultural, business -corporate interactions etc. This Spiritual event will be remained in our hearts.
