Achieving net zero emission target through ‘white gold’

Recent findings of lithium (white gold) reserve in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir is going to be the milestone for India in achieving the net zero emission target by 2070.  As lithium-ion batteries are the new energy restoring mechanism being used specially in electric vehicles (EV’s),  it will boost clean energy with zero emissions. The emissions through petrol/diesel vehicles will reduce in large quantity with reduction in manufacturing cost of electric vehicles. Lithium-ion is the major component used in these types of vehicles, the cost of which will reduce due to this discovery and will make these vehicles available at low price.

Another benefit of this discovery will be in the form of reducing import bills as major portion of lithium resource is imported from Australia, South America and China for producing Personal Digital Assistance ( PDA’s), laptops, iPods, pacemakers, mobile phones and toys.

To summarize, the discovery is still in the early phase of exploration and politically sensitive environment of Jammu & Kashmir is the challenge which needs to be handled with care.
